Who doesn’t love sodas? Be honest now. They always have a great flavor, they’re nice and sweet and their cool fizz can buck you right up when you’re feeling weary on a hot day.
While it’s a great quencher of thirst, it’s honestly something we should avoid when at all possible. Let’s go into a few reasons why now.
First of all, sodas are bad for your teeth. Whether it’s the coloring, the sugars, or the other chemicals inside diet sodas, they’re all bad for your teeth.
Don’t be fooled Even something like Sprite, though clear, will turn your teeth yellow if you drink it regularly. No one wants yellow teeth!
Although they contain no fat, sodas can still make you put on weight. If you don’t burn off all the sugar they contain it will just turn to fat in your body. This is the reason some people go for diet sodas.
But even diet sodas with zero calories can’t be relied on to keep us slim. Scientific studies have shown that the chemicals and the sweetness of these drinks deceive the brain into thinking we’re taking in sugars, so our bodies continue to store fat. Diet sodas? Diet busters, more like!
Most sodas, well at least the ones with caffeine, also dehydrate you. While they’re liquids and you’d think they’d hydrate you, this simply isn’t the case. Caffeine is a diuretic, meaning that it absorbs water and leaves you low on it. If you must drink soda, make sure that you drink some extra water to make up for the loss of it.
The good news is that there are plenty of healthy alternatives that might still satisfy your craving for something carbonated or sweet. There are a handful of sparkling juice drinks that taste great and have no added sugars or chemicals. Try one of these out for a more sensible approach, and your body will thank you for it.
